    Today in our first class I learned you must always be considerate of others. You never know what someone is going though. A child might be from a foster care and acting out in school, but will never speak up because he does not want to discuss his living situation. This is something really important to look out for and keep your eyes and heart open. The professor discussed how this is an example of why he would like us at home, to keep our cameras on during the duration of the class period - so he is aware of everyone's situation. I look forward to learning a lot this semester and having a great time!

  John Dewey: America's philosopher of democracy and his importance to education   John Dewey on Music Education   In Dewey’s model, art isn’t a thing, it’s an experience (though a thing might be the catalyst for the experience.) The work of art isn’t so much the painting or string quartet as it is the experience of the painting or string quartet. That experience depends completely on the social context both of the work’s creation and of its audience. We shouldn’t ask, “what is art?” but rather “when is art?” Dewey saw art not as something existing separately from everyday life, but as existing on a continuum with mundane pleasures.
